Statement on behalf of the Decolonial Open Communiversity - International Preparatory Commission

The Decolonial Open Communiversity (DOC) has now launched with engagements across various parts of the United Kingdom. The Decolonial Open Communiversity - International Preparatory Commission (DOC-IPC) is the acting convening committee of the DOC, working to develop the Decolonial Open Communiversity to engage various communities of resistance, networks, and collaborators, to build the DOC as a glocal process towards the true decolonisation of education and increased Internationalist Solidarity collaboration for Planet Repairs.

In sharing our knowledges, we are committed to building a Global Academy Commons where knowledges are properly respected in pluriversality and restored to the service of community self-empowerment.

The IPC are grateful to the shared learning and dialogue of various communities across London, the City of Oxford, Bristol, and Cambridge University and Sheffield University. We see the need to escalate positive action for the true transformation of education to serve our communities across the world increasingly as colonial miseducation fails us and tells lies that continue to prepare communities for failure against the destruction and escalating violence of imperialism. The DOC commits us all to give greater visibility of the growing strength and urgency of anti-colonial struggles and communities of resistance who are being attacked with increasing reactionary violence, and invisibilisation, and excluded from conversations about decolonisation.

The DOC-IPC will be engaging Glocal Action Liaisons with orientations around key reparatory justice programmes of action for the DOC priorities highlighted:

i) restoring and sharing the anti-colonial traditions of localities here and confronting sites of miseducation

ii) promote the PRALER Fund by popularising glocal PRALER activities and heighten awareness about the restitution of resources as a necessary reparatory justice demand of our indigenous and other colonised communities of resistance

iii) build communications and visibility of the ongoing present day anti-colonial struggles

iv) support the building of safety nets through internationalist trainings and capacity-buildings as directed by the Planet Repairs Internationalist Observatory (PRIO) Secretariat.

v) participate in continuing glocal DOC engagements together with indigenous and other communities of resistance through the Peoples’ Internationalist Fora for Inter-Community Lifelong Learning (PIFICOLL).

(More information will be coming shortly regarding the PRIO and the PIFICOLL)

Communities can contact their local Glocal Action Liaison at various localities to find out more about the DOC and getting involved locally. There will also be broader DOC engagement calls coming shortly.

The DOC is now more than half way through its launch in England.

As the International Preparatory Commission continues, we encourage all communities to continue support for the DOC in the open engagements, working towards restoring the dignity of anti-colonial struggles and the knowledge processes of decolonisation.
